Description: Second edition, published in the same year as the first, apparently with only minor alterations to the text (see note below). Recently rebacked in half calf over contemporary marbled paper covered boards, with gilt lettering and detail to spine. Binding remains sound and firm, boards a little rubbed with wear to edges, worn and bumped to corners. Edward, Lord Harewood's copy with his armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Lacks ffep. Rear pastedown replaced. Inner hinges strengthened. Frontispiece lacking guard-sheet. Text-block remains sound and firm. Pages with age-toning and some foxing in places. Offsetting from plates to adjacent pages, significant in places. Otherwise a very nice, tidy, and sound copy of the second edition. Author's note at the end of the Introduction (p. xvi): "N.B. In sending this Second Edition to the Press, it may not be improper to say, that no Alteration whatever has been made in it from the former one, but merely the changing, or erasing a few unnecessary Words, which, in the hurry of a first Publication, had escaped my Notice."
