Mrs. Maxwell’s Rocky Mountain Museum Series Colorado Building Date: 1876 Medium: Imperial Stereoview with printed mount Size of Image: na Size of Mount: 4 3/8 x 7 inches Condition: Medium to rich tonal image, shows some aging with some light rubbing/staining, mount shows soiling/light stains at edges with some rubbing/bumping at edges/corners. Verso shows rubbing/soiling/aging. Other: View of the taxidermy display of Mrs. Maxwell from her famous Rocky Mountain Museum at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876. The official photographers were the Centennial Photographic Company, licensed to photographer Edward L. Wilson who engaged his friend Canadian photographer William Notman to join him in the venture. Notman served as President while Edward’s role was as Supervisor and Treasurer. Additionally, W. Irving Adams served as Vice President and J.A. Fraser as Art Superintendent. Scottish born photographer William Notman arrived in Montreal in 1856. He began as an amateur but rapidly moved into the ranks of the well established commercial world of his day. He opened many branches throughout Canada and the US. He was an active member of the fine arts photographic community as well and published many articles in the period publications. His accomplishments are far to numerous to note here. He died suddenly of pneumonia in 1891 with his son William continuing the business. Send questions.
