The last 15 years I had put most of my resources into purchasing, early uncirculated High grade Lincoln cents. Like most processes in life, there’s a learning curve. The Matte Proof Lincolns (MPL’s- 1909 -1916,& 1917) are no exception. The manufacturing of something this complex, The minting process for these (MPL’s) have many stages. Where the planchette and dies (P&D) have steps to prepare the P&D’s before, and after the 1st press. Then another couple of steps before the and after the Last press. With every Variable come the possibility of a different outcome come. The difference between the proofs show that this, as some have a satin finish, some a matte, some have huge squared that make a 90 degree angle (squared shiny rims. While others only have the flat front and the outside, but they don’t meet for the entire circumference of the coin. It’s a common misconception that the rims have to be (1st) large (2nd) Full (3rd) squared the entire Circumference of the coin, it’s an incredible desired outcome. But not needed to be graded a proofs. There are many (MPL’s) that have thin small and not consistent rim. One that Is often over looked by not only collectors, but many dealers… and more important. TPG (Graders) Remember that this was a new process, and they didn’t have the internet to turn to. They got the idea from the minting process that the French were using… with a 1000 miles of ocean between them… With something that’s never been done. , that have many variables, many steps, mange complex process. There’s a huge learning curve. These planchette are different than ones they used before. Concave was proofing to make it difficult for consistency. Then the sandblasting of the dies, so many variables size of the concave need the finishes different coins so many different variable produce different sound because it doesn’t have XYZ I had a hard time right now what’s a $50,000 coin look like. And the pictures in the listing, sometimes proves difficult see all the die markers or characteristics the proofs to Proofs are currently in a holder from one of the 5 big Grading companies; There’s a couple of strategies that one might take. If it’s currently Graded by the company that you want to use can send in for “Reconsideration” from my understanding. They will look that the coin and if they deamed it was not graded correctly Send in for Reconsideration. Thi Money Back if not Proof I Pay for shipping and insurance (up to $500) (6) 1909 VDB Matte Proof (4) 1909 Proof PR 63- PR 66 1909 VDB PF 64 a Look at my other listings, wil have some proofs up soon.
