Seattle, WA - 70 mile Gale Batters Seattle. The shattered roof of the Church of the Immaculate in Seattle, Washington, after a 70 mile Gale whipped the city and Puget Sound area, October 21. The roof was broken when the chimney fell down 10 minutes after the congregation had left. The smokestack crashed through the dome and heaped debris in the sanctuary, filling the space from the altar rail to the altar. Vestments were bedraggled by wind and rain coming through the hole.
