Description: The Havelock - November / December 1945 monthly magazine for WAVES of the Washington Area. This is the final issue of this WWII publication. 24 pages. Very good condition. Especially noteworthy is a cartoon by Milt Caniff, creator of "Terry and the Pirates." The Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) was a branch of the U.S. Navy during World War II. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Navy Women's Reserve Act into law on July 30, 1942, establishing the WAVES to replace men stationed ashore and provide more sea duty sailors and officers. By the end of the war, more than 80,000 women had served in the WAVES.
