Description: This is a beautiful oil painting of a story in the Old Testament by Albert Londraville (1922-2015). The first of many paintings of “Susanna and the Elders” was by Artemisia Gentileschi in 1610. It is based on a story in the Old Testament of a woman falsely accused of adultery after she refuses two men who, after discovery of one another in the act of spying on her while she bathes, conspire to blackmail her for sex. She is sentenced to death for adultery and she turns to heaven for help, crying aloud to God that she is innocent. Some of the artists that have painted the scene of discovery include Rembrandt, Peter Paul Rubens, Van Dyke, Theodore Chesseriau, Jean Francois de Troy, Paola Calvary, Alessandro Allori, Lorenzo Lotto, Giacometti, and the list goes on. This is Albert Londraville’s version of “Susanna and the Elders” Londraville studied under the famous Russian American Master, Nicolai Fechin, and was a MGM scenic artist who painted movie backdrops. Albert also studied at the Lukits’ Academy of Fine Arts and often painted on site (plein air). See “Seller’s other items” on eBay.
