The ship was captained by men from Centerville and was lost in a severe storm off Cape Cod in 1853. The design for the cup plate was based on a primitive painting of the ship owned by the Centerville (Barnstable) Historical Society who commissioned the cup plate. This cup plate design is number 27 (1976) and would make a great gift for someone collecting the first fifty plates or for anyone interested in maritime history. Handcrafted on Cape Cod using time-honored techniques, these 3.5 inch cup plates have subtle variations that highlight the artisan's skill. Each cup plate is crafted using a mold created with a hammer and chisel, and then pressed with molten glass using an antique press.
