The document remained with the family until recently. Dates to about one week before Kennedy's nomination for the presidency. LOWELL BROWN FEBRUARY 15, 1934 - APRIL 5, 2023 Santa Fe - Lowell Brown passed away peacefully on April 5 at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the age of 89. He was born in Visalia, California and attended the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 1956 with a degree in physics. While at Berkeley he met his future wife, Shirley Mitchell, whom he married shortly after graduation. Lowell enjoyed a long and accomplished career as a theoretical physicist. He earned his PhD from Harvard in 1961, after which he taught at Yale for several years in the 1960s. He spent the majority of his career as Professor of Physics at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he remained until 2001. After his retirement from the UW, he held a position as Staff Scientist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, up until the age of 80. Along the way he held visiting positions at numerous institutions around the world, including the University of Rome, Imperial College in London, Columbia University, Fermilab, CERN, and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, the latter supported by a Guggenheim fellowship. Later in life he cultivated his passion for cars, working tirelessly on his two Ferraris and an older Jaguar.
