In fact, Beethoven came to Vienna to study with Haydn in 1792 and was quickly dismayed to find Haydn was an indifferent teacher; Haydn recommended Albrechtsberger, and Beethoven was quite happy with this arrangement, and learned harmony and counterpoint from him.
