Description: Moses and Monotheism by Sigmund Freud Presents Freuds classic study of the Moses legend and its role in the growth of Judaism and Christianity. FORMAT Paperback LANGUAGE English CONDITION Brand New Publisher Description This volume contains Freuds speculations on various aspects of religion, on the basis of which he explains certain characteristics of Jewish people in their relations with Christians. From an intensive study of the Moses legend, Freud comes to the startling conclusion that Moses himself was an Egyptian who brought from his native country the religion he gave to the Jews. He accepts the hypothesis that Moses was murdered in the wilderness, but that his memory was cherished by the people and that his religious doctrine ultimately triumphed. Freud develops his general theory of monotheism, which enabled him to throw light on the development of Judaism and Christianity. Author Biography Sigmund Freud was born in 1856 in Moravia; between the ages of four and eighty-two his home was in Vienna: in 1938 Hitlers invasion of Austria forced him to seek asylum in London, where he died in the following year. His career began with several years of brilliant work on the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system. He was almost thirty when, after a period of study under Charcot in Paris, his interests first turned to psychology, and another ten years of clinical work in Vienna(at first in collaboration with Breuer, an older colleague) saw the birth of his creation, psychoanalysis. This began simply as a method of treating neurotic patients by investigating their minds, but it quickly grew into an accumulation of knowledge about the workings of the mind in general, whether sick or healthy. Freud was thus able to demonstrate the normal development of the sexual instinct in childhood and, largely on the basis of an examination of dreams, arrived at his fundamental discovery of the unconscious forces that influence our everyday thoughts and actions. Freuds life was uneventful, but his ideas have shaped not only many specialist disciplines, but the whole intellectual climate of the last half-century Details ISBN0394700147 Author Sigmund Freud Short Title MOSES & MONOTHEISM Language English ISBN-10 0394700147 ISBN-13 9780394700144 Media Book Format Paperback DEWEY 221.92 Year 1955 Imprint Random House USA Inc Place of Publication New York Country of Publication United States Birth 1856 Death 1939 Edition 1st Series Vintage Residence US Pages 192 DOI 10.1604/9780394700144 Edited by Jones, Katherine AU Release Date 1955-01-12 NZ Release Date 1955-01-12 US Release Date 1955-01-12 UK Release Date 1955-01-12 Publisher Random House USA Inc Publication Date 1955-01-12 Audience General We've got this At The Nile, if you're looking for it, we've got it.
