Description: An original Spanish American War era 1904 dated appointment for Marine Corporal Harry E. Darr. It is signed, in hand, by George F. Elliott the 10th Commandant of the Marine Corps (1903-1910). Elliott was a 40 year veteran and was a Spanish American War veteran of the Battle of Cuzco Well in Cuba and the Battle of Novaleta in the Philippines. Darr served from 1898-1932 and served as a Private, Corporal, Sergeant, First Sergeant, Sergeant Major, 2nd Lieutenant and 1st Lieutenant. He was a Spanish American War Campaign veteran aboard the USS Yale, a Philippine Moro Rebellion veteran, was assigned to the Guardia Nacional Dominicana Detachment Dominican Republic, and served with the Haitian and Nicaraguan Constabulary. He spent 34 years in the Corps. It is exceedingly rare to find documents signed by these old campaigning Marines!! The appointment is on a vellum material and displays folds. 120 years old!! Measures 10-3/4” x 8-3/4”.
