Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Rachel Aragon (1938-2023) Native American Acoma Pueblo Large Olla This large (8 inches tall by 8 inches wide) polychrome olla was hand-coiled and hand-painted in the traditional way by Rachel Aragon (1938-2023) of the Acoma Pueblo in 2005. This pot shows the famous Acoma parrot and fertility pattern and was used here by Rachel in exceptionally stunning fashion. It also includes parrots, kiva steps, flowers, and deer with heartlines and spirals in which Rachel specialized. She signed the bottom of the piece “Rachel Aragon, Acoma N.M. 2005.” Rachel’s work has now become increasingly hard to find. Rachel Aragon was a full-blooded Native American Indian of the Eagle Clan and has long been considered one of the finest traditionalist potters from Acoma. She was a daughter of Lupe Aragon and a sister of Florence Aragon and Mary Trujillo. She learned to make pottery from her mother, Lupe, and continued through her life to make classically shaped vessels with intricately painted designs. She is well known for her lightweight pottery and beautiful hand-painted designs. Rachel won numerous awards for her pottery over the years at the Santa Fe Indian Market, Gallup Ceremonials, and other events. Her work is featured in Gregory Schaaf's Southern Pueblo Pottery Artist Biographies, Berger & Schiffer's Pueblo & Navajo Contemporary Pottery and Rick Dillingham's Fourteen Families in Pueblo Pottery. · If you have any question, please contact us before bidding—we want you to love these treasures as we do. · US Bidders Only. · Please make sure to look at all photos as they are part of the description. · All orders will be shipped out within the next 3 business days to the address provided by Ebay after receipt of payment. · We will accept returns and issue refunds only if our description is incorrect but you must contact us before sending any item back.
