This stepped gap seal provides a superior seal over the stock type oil seal ring. It greatly reduces the build up of power robbing deposits due to oil leaking through the seal into the turbine housing and on the turbine wheel. If your turbo is an HX40 you may need two turbine seals because some HX40 turbine shafts utilized two turbine end seals.
