All issues except one have gray illustrated covers. Covers are lightly stained for the most part. A few of the covers are near detached. A few issues are soiled. Interior contents clean with some light warping to the texts. Contents for each issue are printed on the back cover except for the last 3 issues which are printed inside. Advertisements printed inside the covers for the first 15 issues. Ads for the last 3 are printed inside and on the back cover. Articles mostly cover Civil War battles and reminiscences from the Southern perspective. 14 of the issues are signed "Rev. G. W. Finley" at the top edges of the front covers. During the war Rev. George Williamson Finley was a Confederate Captain in Company E, 14th Virginia Infantry. He later served in Company K of the 56 Virginia Infantry in Pickett's Division. Finley was one of the few men who crossed the stone wall at Gettsyburg during Pickett's charge on July 3rd,1863. He was captured at Gettysburg and spent the rest of the war in various union prisons.
