Description: Stonewall Jackson's Way Cedar Mountain to ManassasAugust, 1862from Avalon Hill in 1992unpunched, mint condition. Box has very minimal shelf wear on the bottom corners. All corners tight, no bowing or dishing. Game is unplayed, unfolded and unpunched. The Union player has all sorts of handicaps. His leaders cannot move very many units at once, whereas Longstreet can in theory control 8 or 9 units. The Confederates have a tactical advantage at almost every level. The Union does have the advantage of numbers, lots of units, and reinforcements arriving. The key for the Union is to manage the initial withdrawl to the Rappahannock River and wait for reinforcements. This simulation of the Second Manassas campaign is the first volume in Avalon Hill's new series of strategic Civil War games. Future games will link up with the Stonewall Jackson's Way map to portray much of the Civil War's eastern theater. This is one of the first Civil War games to concentrate on a specific campaign rather than a single battle. Despite its rich detail, the game is fairly easy to learn and play. Indeed, several scenarios can be played to completion in about an hour. The two beautiful game maps portray central Virginia as it was in the summer of 1862, featuring roads. turnpikes, railroads, rivers, mountains - even bridges and fords! These highly accurate maps are based on original Civil War maps in state and county archives. The players control Union and Confederate military units in turns representing one day of real time. The game features five Basic scenarios, two Advanced scenarios, and a detailed day~by-day historical analysis of the actual campaign. Stonewall Jackson's Way will appeal to Civil War buffs of all types as well as to those who are just being introduced to this dramatic period of American history. Its interactive game system assures that each game will be unpredictable, exciting, and competitive. The Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series, commonly abbreviated as GCACW, is a highly-regarded, operational-level series of war games covering famous battles of the American Civil War. The series was started by The Avalon Hill Game Co in 1992 with its first entry, Stonewall Jackson's Way, designed by Joseph M. Balkoski. The Avalon Hill Game Co went on to add 5 more games to the series. While Joseph M. Balkoski was solely responsible for designing the first 4 games in the series, Ed Beach designed Stonewall's Last Battle: The Chancellorsville Campaign and the two collaborated together on On to Richmond!. After The Avalon Hill Game Co closed down in 1998, MMP picked up the license and published six additional games since 2001. Ed Beach has been taking the lead on the series since its move to MMP.
