IF you are using a aftermarket aluminum head with a good machined valve cover surface many people (including myself ) just silicone the spacer to the head . IF you are using a cast aluminum valve cover & it is good, flat & straight in the gasket surface then just use Silicone (form-a-gasket) between the spacer &valve cover. IF your Head is as cast and rough we recommend using a gasket between the spacer and the head. IF you are using a tin valve cover (once again MUST be flat) I recommend a gasket between spacer & valve cover. MOST IMPORANT everything MUST be clean & MUST use a good quality gasket. The BEST silicone I have found is Ford Motorcraft RTV for use on 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel Engines! Motorcraft Part number (TA31). You can get it at your local Ford Dealer. We also enclose a information sheet with each set of spacers sold.
