Description: This is an extremely rare, extremely hard-to-find photo print titled "EYE OF THE WILD" signed by artist Thomas D. Mangelsen. About "Eye of the Wild"Sunlight illuminates the statuesque profile of a mature bald eagle, who keeps a keen eye on the distant horizon. The fierce look of bald eagles is due to a bony shield over the eyes. Possessing eyesight superior to most animals, the bald eagle is capable of spotting salmon or other birds from hundreds of yards away. The eyes of this great bird are so large that they move little in their sockets. Instead, bald eagles compensate for this physiognomical distinction by turning their heads to see, much as owls do. About the ArtistRenowned American nature and wildlife photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen has traveled throughout the natural world for over 45 years observing and photographing Earth's last great wild places. A Nebraska native, Mangelsen’s love of nature, his life outdoors and business success were heavily influenced by his father. An avid sportsman, Harold Mangelsen took his sons to favorite blinds along the Platte River in Nebraska to observe the great flocks of ducks, geese and cranes that migrate through the valley.
