Description: RARE, VINTAGE "HIGH HEAD" CANVASBACK HEN duck decoy carved and painted by MIKE PAVLOVICH MONROE, MI. SLIGHT hunting wear in original paint and glass eyes. I purchased this decoy and many other's from MIKE when he was alive in 1981. This is part of his own personal hunting rig. He told me that he was hunting along the shores of Lake Erie and found a Ed Kellie decoy that was lying on the beach and decided that he too could carve his own decoys. " Ed one arm Kellie " ( he only had one arm but still carved a wonderful decoy) also from MONROE, MI. Mike took the decoy home and used it as a pattern. As close as he could remember he made this decoy in the 1930's-40's. Usually hunting by sneak boat is the reason for the high head. What does a duck do when he first lands into the water? They stick their heads up high to look for danger and at the other ducks. So he tried to imitate that look. You will be hard pressed to fine a finer example from this maker.
