Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. Here's a unique and somewhat obscure Shure mic with excellent studio sound quality. The Shure model SM-56 dynamic cardioid microphone with dual Z setting. It has a warm rich tone that you'll really appreciate and it comes with a mic cable, LO-2B on / off stand adapter & attractive mic case in which to store the items. If you are a singer or drummer then you'll really appreciate the SM-56 which is basically just an upgraded, rarer and more expensive version of the early American SM-57 model mic. This is an excellent snare mic. This SM-56 has been thoroughly gone over. Cleaned, refurbished and tested as with all my microphones for sale. Pic # 2 shows this very model along with the SM-57 and their basic characteristics. I have always preferred the look of the SM-56 over the SM-57 as it has a more ominous and aggressive design. Far more flexible too with dual Z setting. The built in shock mount reduced unwanted feedback as well once the mic is live. The SM-56 was sold during the 1960's and into the mid 1980's before being discontinued. It had a fairly long run and the SM-56 was not a cheap mic. The most expensive of the 545 series with it's built in chunky lower shock mount and dual Z switch for either Low Z or High Z depending on the audio equipment you were working with. This SM56 also has the standard modern XLR attachment. Pic # 3 shows Jim Morrison (Front man for The Doors) using this very model while performing live. It was one of his favorite model mics at that point in his career. Johnny Cash was also a big fan of the SM56 and you can see him using one while performing live at The Folsom prison concert. Anyways, the signal strength on this SM-56 is 100% with a warm, smooth tone. I replaced the inner foam pop filter under the front screen as the original was all but gone. This new pop filter provides maximum sound quality and needs to be done on any 545 series mic that is more than 30 years old. I cleaned the XLR pins on the mic as well ensuring a perfect signal once the cable is attached. This is a must as well. The High, Low impedance switch works perfectly and lies just under the front impedance cover held in place via 2 screws. As you can see the original paint is quite good with just a minimum of wear. Typical lite scratches and scuff marks but the mic is free of any dents or corrosion and everything is tight. No loose or missing components. Joint mechanism has plenty of tension and you can get just the right angle needed. The front screen is free of odors, tarnish or indentations. The mic is a conservative 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 though many would rate higher. Mic comes with a long, vintage Belden 8412 model cable with XLR end connectors. This cable in in very nice condition being soft, pliable and great for stage and studio use. These Belden cables are highly sought after and add real value to this package deal. There is also an ebony 2 piece Atlas LO-2B on / off adapter that makes taking this mi off your stand super easy. The lower portion screws onto any stand or boom arm you have while the upper portion screws into the mic. Simply depress the button on the LO-2B and it releases the mic allowing you to walk around with the mic in your hand. It keeps you from damaging the threads on the bottom of the mic as well. A very practical adapter for any older screw on type microphone. You'll notice the larger exterior black foam pop filter. It fits like a glove and really helps to clean up the already clean sound on this mic. If you are going to sing with this mic or broadcast the you'll really appreciate this nice accessory. it looks great on the mic as well and while you might not need to use it...it's nice to know that it's there if you choose to do so. The mic also comes with the very attractive older case that has a grey colored vinyl exterior, carrying handle and locking mechanism. More than enough room for everything provided. I installed two new foam pads to keep everything safe and snug. The case is appx 14 inches across X 9 inches deep X 3 inches tall. A very mid century design that really compliments the mic. The Shure Brothers SM-56 is truly one of the best looking and best sounding mics ever sold. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
