Sterbebild are also known as Funeral Cards or Death Notices. The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Corporal Franz Seklehner. Franz was highly decorated during his service and received the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class, Infantry Assault Badge in Silver, Silver Wound Badge, Russian Front Medal, and the respected Bronze Close Combat clasp. Franze fell on the field on honor on November 12, 1944 and is buried in a heroes cemetery in Albania. This card would be a great addition to a collection.
